Diving Trips

Madeira is a small island located in the Atlantic Ocean, famous for it's Laurisilva and Madeira wine. What most people don't realise is that the underwaterworld of Madeira is unexpectactly beautiful.

Calheta Diving Center is the one and only dive center located in the South West part of Madeira. Located in the sunniest part of the Island and with over 25 divespots in the area, we can guarantee an interesting and pristine underwater world, not seen by many.

No matter if you are an expert diver or want start with diving, we offer excellent dives suitable for different levels. We have multiple shore dives, boat dives, drifdives, wreckdives and we organise trips to marinepark Garajau. Most dives have over 25 meters visibility and the water temperature varies from 21 degrees to 25 degrees, which makes the diving very pleasant.

Boat trips

The most dive we do, is by boat. With a strong and flexible RIB, we have the opportunity to visit divesites not accessible from shore.

Some of the best divesites on the island are not more than a 15-minute trip away.

Wreckdive Bom Rei is one of these examples. By many people remembered as Bowbelle, involved in an accident in the Thames river. The excellent state of this wreck and the amount of fish makes this dive a favorite for many.

Faja da Ovelha is a dive spot near the end of the island. Getting close to the West increases the chance to see pelagic. On lucky days we see hammerheads, monk seals and with greater frequency different types of rays.

Road trips

When conditions don't allow us to dive from boat

we visit other locations. We load the 4x4 car with dive-equipment and visit other parts of Madeira.

With great repetition we organise trips to the Marine Reserve located in Garajau.

Road trips offer a perfect combination between diving and sight-seeing.

Shore dives

In front of the hotel is the only sand beach of Madeira. The beach offers perfect entrance to start an easy and comforable dive. A perfect dive if you haven't dive for a while or if you are not interested to go on a boat.

Another shore dive we do with great pleasure, is Praia do Garajau. This dive is famous for it's impressive Mero's, known as groupers in the rest of the world. These friendly and curious animal garantuee an unique dive-experience, which makes you forget there is another world above the water.
